Mosques: ready for Friday prayer

Indoor climate, cracks, water and visitor flows in historic and modern mosques, measured continuously. baiond tells the board what needs attention before Friday prayer, and keeps the record for the trustees and the heritage authority.

The challenge

What goes wrong quietly.

The prayer hall fills in twenty minutes

Jumu'ah, Eid, the nights of Ramadan: two thousand people arrive within a short time, and humidity and CO₂ rise faster than any manual ventilation can follow. The tilework, the timber and the carpets take the moisture in, week after week.

Cracks that move without a sound

A hairline crack in the main wall or under the dome is checked at the annual inspection, if at all. Whether it moved during the winter or the last full house, nobody can say.

Water and energy that run unseen

Ablution areas run all day, and a tap left open or a leak under the floor shows up on the water bill weeks later. Heating and ventilation follow a schedule, not the people in the building.

  • CO₂ 580ppm

Yes, all parameters are stable and within safety limits. The crack sensor reads a constant 0.8 mm with no movement for 30 days. The prayer hall is at 22.4 °C and 52 % humidity, inside the ideal range for historic woodwork, tilework and carpets (45–55 %), and CO₂ is at 580 ppm, pre-conditioned for the incoming Jumu'ah peak.

Sensors in use

Where the sensors sit.

Every dot is a sensor family in its typical place. Select one to see what it measures and what baiond does with it.

baiond combines crack sensors on the fabric, climate sensors in the prayer hall and the galleries, water meters in the ablution areas, an anonymous people counter at the entrances and the energy meter on one platform. The readings arrive through the baiond Gateway, which also speaks to your ventilation and heating. Before every Friday prayer the board sees whether the hall is pre-conditioned, whether the cracks have moved and whether the water is running where it should not. When a value leaves its range, the caretaker gets a message with the reading, the cause and the next step. Ask in your own words, and the answer comes with its source.

What changes

The same site, run differently.

Windows opened when the hall already feels close.

Ventilation that starts before the first row is full.

A crack under the dome, checked once a year.

Crack width as a curve, with an alert the day it moves.

A running tap in the ablution area found on the water bill.

A prompt message, naming the line that keeps running.

The heritage report written from memory and photographs.

A year of readings exported in a few clicks, events marked.

Questions

What managers ask before they start.

Can baiond prepare the prayer hall for Friday automatically?

Yes. The platform works with the prayer times and the usual attendance from the counters. It can bring the hall to the target climate before people arrive and steps the ventilation up as the count rises, so CO₂ and humidity stay in range through the peak. Whether it controls your ventilation directly depends on the system; the baiond Gateway speaks the common building protocols.

What humidity protects the tilework, the timber and the carpets?

Conservators usually recommend a stable band, for historic woodwork, tilework and carpets often 45 to 55 percent relative humidity, and above all no fast swings after a full house. baiond measures in the zones that matter and alerts you when the value or its rate of change leaves the range you agreed with your conservator.

Does the visitor counting respect the privacy of the congregation?

Yes. The counters report numbers only, never images or identities; the data is anonymous from the start. You see how many people were in the hall and when, which is what climate control, cleaning and safety planning need.

Can it detect a leak or a running tap in the ablution area?

Yes. Water-flow sensors on the supply lines learn the normal pattern of the ablution area, and a flow that continues between prayers or at night triggers a message with the line concerned. Leaks under the floor show up as a base flow that never stops.

Is the historic fabric touched during installation?

No. The sensors are small, wireless and battery-powered, so there is usually no cabling through walls or the dome. Crack sensors are fixed like a plaster tell-tale; climate sensors sit on ledges and galleries. Positions are agreed with your conservator or heritage authority.

Can I ask baiond questions in Arabic, Turkish or English?

You ask in plain language and the platform answers with the readings and their source. English and German are available today; further languages for the assistant are planned. The dashboards and alerts work in any case.
